“Immaterial/Re-material” presents a survey of historical and current practices by leading artists who have employed computing technology since the mid-1960s. What is unique to the computer’s innovative potential is the particular multivalence of this technology: coding isn’t merely a technique, but also a language.
As the curator stated in the introduction: “The exhibition is not meant to be a denial of the material itself, but a discussion of how coding can be applied in re-material as a part of creative power”, the visual design of the catalogue focuses on the exhibition’s philosophical discussion, “Transformation between immaterial and re-material”, and the technological basis of computing art, “Coding”.
