单峰驼是偶蹄目骆驼科骆驼属哺乳动物。一般在2米以上。有1个驼峰，驼峰高30厘米；四肢细长，蹄上有两个趾头；体毛较短。毛色从黑色到白色都有，通常为褐色。寿命为50年。
单峰驼主要分布于西亚、南亚、非洲北部。栖息于荒漠地带，善于在沙漠中行走。性情温和，多以多刺植物、含盐植物、草为食。排尿不多，只有体温超过40℃时才出汗。
